Text: Proverbs 11:1-31.

Proverbs 11:21: Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished; but the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.

Proverbs 11:21: (CEB) The evil person will surely not go unpunished, but the children of the righteous will escape.

Proverbs 11:22: As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.

Proverbs 11:22: (CEB) Like a gold ring in a pig’s nose is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion.

Proverbs 11:22: (TPT) A beautiful woman who abandons good morals is like a fine gold ring dangling from a pig’s snout.

The word translated discretion (ṭā'am) — “Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without discretion” — is often translated taste. So, to have discretion is to have discerning taste, not just in food, but in comportment, dress, adornment, behavior. The word is translated “good judgment” in Psalm 119:66.

In the Bible, discretion is the virtue of using godly wisdom, sound judgment, and moral discernment to guide your words, actions, and decisions. It goes beyond mere human caution, acting as a spiritual safeguard to help believers avoid sin, manage their lives, and navigate complex situations.
