PatchWerk — A Beat Made of Math (Bytebeat Machines in a Browser Modular Synth)

A full patch built and played in PatchWerk, a modular synthesizer that runs entirely in the browser. The whole beat is made of math.

Two MATH machines drive the patch. Each one runs a bytebeat-style expression on the raw sample clock, mixing integer divides and bit shifts (t/500 right-shifted by t/500, and t/50 right-shifted by t/400) to turn a plain sample counter into rhythm and pitch. Those signals fire a Kick drum and steer a Wavetable oscillator, which feeds a Pitch Shift on the way to the output. An Oscilloscope sits on the bus, so the waveform stays visible while it plays.

The opening minute and a half is the build: pulling devices off the library, wiring the math into the kick, and patching the scope. The beat starts around 1:38 and runs to the end.

PatchWerk is a generative modular synth built on the Web Audio API and AudioWorklets. There are no samples and no AI. Every sound is synthesized live in the page from the patch on screen.
