Windy Wednesday ahead with critical fire danger for some 

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4) - Happy Wednesday, Utah! It's going to be a blustery day with wicked winds impacting the West Desert and parts of Wasatch Front. We have an upper-level low to our West and our high pressure to the east, and as the low moves inland we see southerly winds amp up. With a southwest flow, we will see some warmer air so there's potential for above average temperatures. Daytime highs will push the uppers 80s and low 90s along the Wasatch Front, low 80s in Cache Valley, low to mid 80s throughout central Utah and low 90s in SW Utah. With dry conditions on the western side of the state, above average warmth and winds, a Red Flag Warning has been issued.

The Red Flag Warning was issued for the Great Salt Lake desert and mountains due to wind and low relative humidity and goes into effect from 11 AM to 9 PM. Southerly winds will be sustained between 15 and 25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour. Humidity percents will be in the low teens, and a fire start could spread quickly under these conditions.

Southerly winds will keep temperatures in the mid to upper 80s for most and low 90s in warmer areas for today, but our wet weather chances wane for the midweek, but then increase again Thursday and Friday.

By Thursday, the upper level low will dig along the California Coast and ushering in more moisture and bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms to northern Utah, but we can't rule it out in central and southern Utah either. As the low lifts through the Great Basin on Friday, storms become more scattered in northern Utah. Weather models don't totally agree with the path of the low, with some suggesting a dry slot over Utah and others favoring storm potential. Temperatures will take a notable tumble Friday and Saturday with highs in the 70s along the Wasatch Front and lingering moisture could affect the first half of the weekend for some.
