Ex Mappa animators working on Attack on Titan Season 4 commented on the bad work environment and working on drawing corrections til sunrise. Animator Ippei Ichi commented on Netflix paying more anime standard pay for anime cuts likely for the Netflix Yasuke Anime produced by Mappa studio, A third animator revealed getting $2 (250 Yen) for in-between animation work, speculated for the Jujutsu Kaisen Movie trailer.

Mappa, the studio behind shows like Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan Final Season, and Chainsaw man is recently facing backlash against their studio for things like overworking their animators, and barely paying them in the process. This has been a recurring issue with the Japanese animation industry and the problem with animators getting little to no pay for all the hard work they produce. And lately, Mappa studios is the main face of the issue during this time. Netflix is also facing the same problem, with there being news that Netflix paid a group of animators very low pay, which doesn’t really make any sense because Netflix is a billion dollar company. With Attack on titan, the dudes at mappa were pretty rushed to finish attack on titan final season, so it was made under ten months. Luckily they released a blu-ray version of Attack on titan season 4 so the animation in Attack on titan looks better. With Jujutsu Kaisen, there wasn’t really too many issues with Jujutsu Kaisen because mappa had several months of pre-production while animating jujutsu kaisen, so that’s why the animation in Jujutsu Kaisen looks very consistent and fluid.
