The middle wall of the nose which divides it into right and left is known as the nasal septum. The nasal septum of the middle wall of the nose can invariably be bent in more than 60% of the population which is a large large number of people. Maybe 10% of them will require to be addressed because they have a deviation that is causing significant obstruction to normal flow of air. When the normal air flow in the nose is affected persons can develop breathing difficulty at night leading to snoring or apneic episodes. So when there is a deviation of septum is causing significant symptoms and also causing complications like sinusitis is or the development of popse or severe symptoms of headache etc that has to be addressed. So there are certain subset of people who have significant symptoms caused by deviation of the septum. Those are the patients who will require to be addressed by surgery and that is known as a septoplasty, a plastic correction of the septum to change the shape and size so that nor noral bilateral air flow is achieved is what is known as septoplasty. It's a procedure that is done inside the nose. There's no external cut required for it and it takes about 2 weeks to recover in the person can go back to work after 2 weeks sometimes it may take a little longer the surrounding swelling and all that will take about 2 to 3 weeks to settle down toileting of the nose is required from the inside to make sure it's kept clean and healthy so that the recovery period is hen this is what is known as a septoplasty and invariably it is a well easily correctable procedure.
