Goodwill How-To Series: How to Create a Tie Wreath

Instructions for Tie Wreath
Supplies needed:
- 12 Goodwill ties
- 12 straight pins
- 12 buttons, about 1" in diameter
- Sewing needle and thread
- 12" diameter green metal/wire round base, available at craft stores

Choose ties either random in color or stick to a color scheme; either one looks nice. Measuring from the point of the tie, cut at the 10" mark. We recommend starting with one tie, wrapping it around the wire base first to see if you wish to cut off another inch or so, according to how tight you want your ties to be wrapped.
Once you find your desired length, trim the rest of the ties to that measurement. Slightly overlapping the inner ring, wrap the tie around the outer ring with the point out. If it feels snug and no inside tie edges showing, pin it in the middle. You'll have to work around the wire but it's easy to get used to successful pinning. Wrap the second tie to the right of the first one, lightly overlapping so no green wire is showing. Repeat until all dozen ties are pinned in place.
Thread your needle; even if your thread doesn't match all your ties, feel free to stick to one color thread- We think it adds character. Plan your button arrangement; contrasting button colors pop more. Remove the straight pin on your first tie, hand sew the button on snugly. Move the next tie, being careful to remove the pins one at a time.
Keep the wrap tightness and length of points consistent.
In a just a few minutes, you'll have a beautiful conversation piece, your own tie wreath. No need to attach a hanger; simply find the (covered) wire with your fingrer, and slide wire (and tie covering it) over a nail.
