OLD AGE makeup, prosthetics & liquid latex tutorial!

For our latest video effect we needed to make me look old... so we tried a fun 'old man' makeup idea. We used a combination of latex prosthetics (forehead, jowls, eye bags, aged ears), liquid latex (for stippling with a sponge to create wrinkles) and old age makeup. So this is basically three old age effects in one.

Something similar could be used for creating a character in films, on stage or for a Halloween costume. Here's how we did it!

Please note we are not make-up professionals and this was an experiment conducted during a lockdown. I'm sure we made mistakes and there will be people how can do this better!

Also check out the video effect we were using this for, our 'old age transition' as seen in films like Titanic and Saving Private Ryan, which you can see the tutorial for here: https://youtu.be/twM75DX0YPA

We ordered a prothetic wrinkled forehead, eye bags, jowls and aged ears from mostlydead.com and used Graftobian make-up. We also got some Castor Seal, Pro Setting Powder, liquid latex and an old age makeup kit, which includes sponges, a brush and some creme makeup. I severely jelled and combed my hair back as far as it would go to reveal the highest hairline possible. Next, I was able to color my hair using the white stick in the makeup kit, The prosthetics weren't going to cover my entire face, and that was what the liquid latex was for. You can paint this onto your face to disguise joins between your real skin and latex pieces, and you can use it to build up extra layers of fake skin. So now I started to do some latex stippling, using liquid latex in a dish and applying it to my face, using a sponge. So I started by stretching out parts of my face that could naturally stretch and applying a layer of liquid latex. Then I would use a hairdryer to try and dry this out as quickly as I could and then, I would apply another layer on top, all while keeping my skin held as tight as I could. Once the latex appears clear, it has dried and it is time for the next layer. And the more layers you do, the thicker your fake skin will be. And when this is dry and you unstretch the skin, the latex has given you what look like naturally occurring wrinkles. Now I could start adding the prosthetics, and take our Pro Adhesive and brush a layer of this onto the back of the prosthetic. If it's a large piece, it's better to do this in the middle of the prosthetic and then work your way outwards. You can also apply a small amount of the adhesive to your skin as well. So now I could start adding the makeup. I added more foundation on top of everything just to make it all the same color. So once I had the foundation layer on, now I could start with the other colors. I started by taking one of the darker colors and I contoured under my cheekbones, along the temples, along my forehead, following the curve of the eyebrows, and in the ridge of my chin. This was to make these areas feel a little more sunken in and to make my face look more skull-like. Once I'd done that, I could take a lighter color and add it to the opposite areas, the parts that should look like they're protruding. When applying makeup to all of the wrinkles, I would put a dark color down one side and a lighter color on the other side to make it look more three-dimensional. This helped accentuate the grooves from the nose down to the mouth, the crow's feet on each side of the eyes, and the forehead wrinkles. For very fine wrinkles, I could use the eyeliner pencil that came with the old age makeup kit. In order to make the face paler and to make sure the makeup didn't smudge, I added lots of the Pro Setting Powder to keep it in place. I added some little sun spots near the top of the forehead and used a bit more of the whitening stick on the eyebrows and to create some stubble.
