On September 13, 2024, a routine call in La Crosse, Wisconsin took an unexpected and dangerous turn. Officer Raleigh Kadinger initiated contact with a man named Austin “AJ” Turner, who was mistaken for a suspect officers had been looking for earlier that night.
While attempting to detain Turner, a backup officer accidentally struck both Officer Kadinger and Turner with his squad car — injuring them both. Turner was later hospitalized and, two days later, was arrested at Gundersen Hospital on several charges including resisting/obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia, and bail jumping.
In January 2025, Turner posted a $1,000 signature bond, and later filed a claim against the City of La Crosse. By August 14, 2025, the city approved a $144,000 settlement related to the incident.
This video shows the full bodycam footage of the chaotic arrest — highlighting the risks officers face in rapidly evolving situations, and the unexpected dangers even routine encounters can present.
