Wednesday at the Y pt10

I spent about 2 hours after work on 05/04/2011 filming trains at the west end of the famous "BNSF Funnel". Perched on a small bluff, my vantage point let me capture traffic on the wye of the Latah (pronounced LAY-tah) Creek bridge.

The left leg swings northwest and connects to the ex-Great Northern line to Seattle via the Cascade Tunnel. The right leg swings southwest and connects to the ex-Spokane Portland & Seattle and ex-Northern Pacific lines. This route follows the Columbia River to Vancouver Wa/Portland Or.

Last but not least - but yes, there is a leased locomotive. This unit potash Union Pacific trackage rights train (what a mouth full!) has come down from Canada. It will diverge to it's own trackage at UP Jct and continue to the coast via Hinkle Or. In the 2 hours I've been on location, I have captured just about every type of train common to this area, with the exception of a coal drag. I hope to return soon and get more traffic on the Seattle leg of the wye. I also hope you've enjoyed the show and as always - THANKS FOR WATCHING!!
