bicycle-powered automatic saw

⚙️ 1. Working principle

When the user pedals the bicycle, mechanical energy is transferred from the wheel → chain → drive shaft.
This shaft connects to a flywheel or gear system, which converts the continuous rotary motion into a reciprocating motion (using a crank–slider mechanism).
As a result, the saw blade moves back and forth — either vertically or horizontally — to cut through the material.
Some designs also include a belt drive or speed increaser to make the cutting faster and stronger.

🔩 2. Main components
1. Frame:
• Made of strong metal or wood to support and stabilize the whole system.
2. Bicycle drive unit:
• Uses the pedals, crankset, chain, and sprocket from a bicycle to generate rotational power.
3. Transmission shaft:
• Connects the rear sprocket to the saw mechanism via a belt or gear system.
4. Crank–slider mechanism:
• Converts rotary motion from the shaft into the reciprocating motion of the saw blade.
5. Saw blade:
• Can be a jigsaw or wood-cutting blade, depending on the material.
6. Cutting table:
• Where the workpiece is placed, often equipped with clamps to hold it securely during cutting.

⚡ 3. Advantages
• No electricity required — environmentally friendly.
• Human-powered, suitable for areas without access to electricity.
• Low-cost and easy to build using common materials.
• Cutting speed adjustable simply by changing pedaling force.

⚠️ 4. Limitations
• Cutting speed and power depend on human strength, so it’s not suitable for very hard materials.
• Requires regular maintenance of the drive chain and gears.
• Not ideal for long work sessions, as the operator can tire quickly.

🧰 5. Practical applications
• Useful for educational or experimental projects on mechanical energy and renewable power.
• Suitable for rural or off-grid areas without electricity.
• Can cut bamboo, small wooden pieces, plastic, or PVC pipes, and other soft materials.
