On-Set Controversies of Two and a Half Men

The Harper Brothers, Charlie and Alan, are very different from each other. While Alan is a simple, naive, and compulsively-organized chiropractor who has been monogamous most of his adult life, Charlie is a freelance jingle writer and the irresistible casanova who uses his money, charm and beautiful beach house to entice one woman after the other, but remains commitment-phobic throughout. Charlie's free-wheeling life changes when Alan is thrown out of his home by his manipulative wife Judith. Charlie allows Alan and his son Jake, an adorable but dim-witted boy who is constantly moving between his parents, to stay at his beach house, but only temporarily.

Two and a Half Men was all about two men, with a contrasting lifestyle, doing their best to raise a ten-year-old kid. There were many recurring characters, with the most memorable ones being Evelyn, Alan and Charlie's maternally cold mother; Berta, Charlie's sharp-tongued cleaning lady; and Rose, Charlie's super-rich neighbor and stalker with a thing for him.

Two and a Half Men never could win the critic's love -- unrestricted discussions revolving around sex and alcohol were quite common and frequent in the show and did not impress the critics. Similarly, the show had almost no female role models -- almost all the women were either shown to be cold, controlling, or desperate. However, it does not matter what the critics thought because the audience loved the series -- throughout its run, Two and a Half Men always occupied a spot on the top 20. The show has 46 Primetime Emmy nominations to its credit and won the 35th People's Choice Awards for Favorite TV Comedy.
