Is AI becoming an exploitable addiction?
GTT YT video: https://youtu.be/Cc7j3qtK_GU
The OpenAI Charter defines the organization's mission as ensuring Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity. In Feb 2026, researcher and Harvard trained economist, Zoe Hitzig, left OpenAI due to the societal and psychological dangers she saw in prolonged use of AIs. She posted on op-ed published in the New York Times detailing her growing concerns.
A critical piece of Zoe's observation is rooted in the increasing tension between people's growing reliancge of AI and the AI companies business model relying maximized engagement for profits (i.e., "token maxing" people), without regard to the psychological and societal consequences.
She noted that AIs play a distinctly unique role over prior social media forms due to their constant and interactive availability, encouragement of perpetual engagement, and the "trust" people are building with them.
