As the fifth of eight reflections on the concept of fire found on "Eldhymner", "Ur malströmmens famn" represents the fatal and liminal point of transition: the turning of the tide. Here, the humiliating taste of ashes filling one's mouth serves to empower the redirection of a surging current of destructive and soul-consuming flames into something immensely forceful and potent. The ancient fog of wrath is dispersed, and one's destiny becomes clear once again. Out of the maelstrom’s embrace and into the sun.
