On July 11, 2015 at 8:52 PM, surveillance cameras at the Altiplano maximum security prison in Mexico captured El Chapo walking toward his shower. Then he was gone.
Under the shower floor was a hole. The hole led to a shaft 10 metres deep. The shaft led to a tunnel — 1.5 kilometres long, with electric lighting, ventilation, and a rail-mounted motorbike waiting to carry him to the exit.
It was his second escape from a maximum security prison.
He was convicted in 2019. Life plus 30 years.
