In this episode of Belqui's Twist, you'll learn how to make Dominican Pastelón de Papas (Shepherd's Pie). Is your mouth watering yet? Let's get started!
Cooking directions for your reference:
1) Cook the peeled potatoes in boiling water. To test this, pierce a potato with a fork. If the fork easily slides all the way through the other side, it's cooked thoroughly. Then, get ready to drain and mash the potatoes!
2) There's going to be seasoning in the beef, plus the cheese is already salty. Therefore, we don't need to add salt. Depending on your preference, add some butter and a little bit of milk to the potatoes.
3) Prepare your cooking pot with a long handle, so it's easier for you to cook the beef. Add some seasonings, including semi-dried cilantro and chopped manzanilla olives
4) Press the outside center of your beef lightly with tongs or your clean pointer finger to judge its degree of doneness. Once cooked, add the chopped peppers and onions for more flavors. You can use any kind of pepper you prefer. But for this one, I used red and yellow peppers.
5) Finish it off and start assembling your Dominican Shepherd's Pie. Find your preferred container, make the first layer at the bottom, and add the beef. I'm not draining the oil out of it because I want it to be moisty.
6) Sprinkle a fair amount of mozzarella cheese. You can use a spoon since the cheese will want to come up as you create a second layer of mashed potatoes. Try to be gentle as much as you can.
7) Since everything is cooked and we're just aiming for a nice color, put it inside the oven and cook for another fifteen minutes. That should be enough for us to achieve the look that we want. After that, it's ready to be served! I highly recommend this recipe during the holiday seasons!
Go ahead and schedule a time when you can cook this. In case you already did, I hope you enjoyed following this recipe as much as you loved the taste!
