My First Day Home With Lefty And Touché | Quaker And Indian Ringneck Parrots

Day one with my project birds Lefty the quaker parrot and Touché the Indian ringneck parrot!

PLEASE don't just leave your bird alone when you first bring it home. Yes, I let these birds sleep once we got in so late but in the morning I wanted to immediately interact and introduce myself. Allowing your bird to be alone to take in its surroundings from the inside of a cage only makes the surroundings (and you!) scarier upon the eventual meeting. Wheras interacting immediately, and taking cages out of the equation, allows for you to start bonding with your bird right away.

Use comfort things like food, bathing, treats or whatever it is you find your new bird likes to offer as an incentive to continue positive interaction with you.

Touch training is a great first trick to train because it's non-invasive by being a "hands off" approach to interacting and communicating. It allows anyone in the household to get the bird to go where you need it to go and lends itself to being able to be used for trick training or even flight training later on.
