GEF-UNDP SGP-Biomass Energy ZICORD Manipur

GEF-UNDP Small Grant Project with ZICORD promotes energy efficient cook stoves and fuel efficient briquette fuel productions from waste biomass of agricultural residues, grass and twigs. The technology helps in the efforts to reduce the use of forest encroachment, fossil-fuels, carbon emission from firewood use and women drudgery.
A briquette is a compressed block of combustible biomass (rice husk, charcoal in this case) which is used instead of wood in remote areas for cooking and heating purposes. They are used in individual households, laundries and hostels.
ZICORD takes efforts to empower the women and promote women enterprise by involving women SHGs in their production and marketing. These SHGs or groups are knows as Energy Producer groups (EPGs). SGP India is being coordinated by Centre for Environment Education(CEE), the National Host Institution(NHI)
