In this lecture, we begin the Argo CD: Basics to Production series by first understanding GitOps from the ground up. Before introducing tools like Argo CD, it is important to clearly understand why GitOps exists, the problems it solves, and how it fundamentally changes the way applications and infrastructure are managed.

We start by looking at how application delivery worked before GitOps, where application code, infrastructure, and configuration followed different workflows. We then define GitOps from a CNCF perspective, explain pull-based deployments and continuous reconciliation, and walk through repository structure, ownership, and an end-to-end GitOps workflow.
