The dielectric constant apparatus measures the permittivity of a material by comparing the capacitance of a test capacitor with a dielectric material to its capacitance with air/vacuum . It typically uses a high-frequency (RF) oscillator, a variable capacitor, a test capacitor (parallel plate), and a microammeter to detect resonance.
Apparatus Components
High-Frequency Oscillator: Provides an RF signal.
Test Capacitor: A parallel plate capacitor with a movable plate to adjust the separation
and insert dielectric materials.
Variable Capacitor: A calibrated, air-dielectric capacitor (e.g., Gang capacitor) to adjust the circuit's total capacitance.
Microammeter/Detector: Measures current to identify the resonance peak.
