releasing new work, balancing a 9-5, fig lattes, art talk | studio vlog

hey friends ~

welcome back for another studio vlog week in my life! happy to have you.

this was an interesting one to film and put together. i've only just started getting back into painting and prepping to release some new work so i'm still trying to find that perfect balance of 9-5 and working for myself. it's tricky especially because i don't work strict hours BUT better to do what i can to build an art career now than to start later and be like "dang i should've done this years ago"

you know?

anyways...

since it's been a while since i painted i feel like i'm kind of going over basics again. i always have to teach myself how to paint again. i thought i knew where i wanted to go next when i finished my last series of work but i'm realizing as i work more in my sketchbook and look at other artists that my direction has shifted a lot. i'm not really trying to fight it i'm just trying to figure out how to make it work. it's one of those "i can see the idea clearly in my head but when i try to paint it it doesn't turn out the same" kind of deals.

artist talks are always my go-to when i need some serious guidance with my work. i have a playlist of some of my favorites that i've saved over the last couple of years and will probably be adding a lot more too it as i continue planning this new series. i'm hoping to release new work by the end of this month so fingers crossed i get to the point i want to soon.

in the mean time you can expect a lot more sketchbook paintings from me, more paint studies, and a lot more artist talks. do yall like art talks? i feel like it would kind of be a given if you're watching art vlogs or studio vlogs but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

maybe i'll do some chatty paint with me soon and we can deep dive into process and ideas and technique...i think that'd be fun!
