4/6/19 SD&AE desert line exploration: Trains in Coyote Wells and Plaster City

For the final day of our Capistrano, San Diego and Imperial Valley trip, we will travel eastward from Alpine and away from San Diego to Campo, Jacumba, Coyote Wells and Plant City which have unique pieces of railroad equipment and are places located along the former San Diego and Arizona Eastern desert line.

After leaving Jacumba, CA behind us, we then continue on the I-8 east to go through the Carrizo canyons and into the Imperial Valley. We make a stop in Coyote Wells, CA where the Pacific Imperial Railroad(STBX 4504, STBX 4501 and STBX 4500) left its' three partially damaged-plus parts taken off- former Idaho, Northern and Pacific GP40 locomotives as well as a damaged center-beam lumber car plus other somewhat looking abandoned stuff.

After that, we then venture into Plaster City, CA where we find the two Alco-designed, Bombardier-built, 35-year-old DL-535Es USG engines 112 and 111, originally built for the White Pass and Yukon Railroad but were then sold off to United States Gypsum, just tied down in the yard. This would conclude our SD&AE exploration, however, capturing trains is not over yet.

This would be part of our Capistrano, San Diego and Imperial Valley Railfanning Trip!
