The Indian National Congress (INC) on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the recent fuel price hike, accusing the Centre of failing to protect citizens from rising inflation and increasing economic pressure.

Addressing a press conference, senior Congress leader Rajeev Gowda said the government had a “moral and economic obligation” to shield consumers from soaring fuel prices instead of burdening the public further. Framing his criticism around four major questions directed at PM Modi, Gowda alleged that the Centre had failed both economically and diplomatically in handling India’s energy policy and foreign relations.
