Scott Steiner & Buff Bagwell's heat in Dubya Cee Dubya

Wrestling's Glory Days [11th August 2013]
“Me & Scotty were the only two people that didn't have to check in with the booking committee. In other words me & Scotty did whatever we wanted to do. We had time segmented out & we did whatever we wanted to do. Eric (Bischoff) give us the leeway. What you saw of Scotty on TV, he was real. I'm Marc Bagwell talking to you right now & there is also Buff that I turn into when I see a red light but he didn't have that, he was Big Poppa Pump all the time. He just didn't know when to turn it off, it was constant. When I was out there managing him I was literally managing him, I was begging him not to hit that guy or pleading with him. He had to tape his two middle fingers together because he kept getting fined for shooting birds. He was just so mean & he couldn't help it. It was just nuts, it was constant mayhem with him. He was wide open. The real deal at all times.” - Buff Bagwell

Scott Steiner was hit with a beer during a commercial break at Nitro & it took several security guards to restrain him when he climbed the railing to try to find out who hit him. Buff Bagwell tried to take attention away from the situation by doing mic work in the ring. Earlier in the day Scott got into a confrontation with a tanning booth employee at the Target Center health club when he didn’t want to pay to tan, but then complained when the tanning bed wouldn’t turn on.

When a fan chanted “steroids” at Scott Steiner at the Mar. 4 Thunder taping (which aired Mar. 11), Scott went into the crowd to try to get at the fan. Some wrestlers & other on air talent are literally scared to participate in angles with Scott because he is such a loose cannon. J.J. Dillon is apparently scared to death of him & those two don’t even have a personal grudge. Wrestlers have had to tell Scott to calm down while they practice certain spots backstage for their match later.

PowerSlam Magazine [April 1999]
Marcus Bagwell & Scott Steiner are currently within swinging distance of major success. They comprise of a great narcissistic double act, with 'Buff's' comical pretty boy arrogance perfectly complementing 'Big Poppa Pump's' fearsomely unstable disposition. Their routine is over with the WCW faithful. But, unlike their Wolfpac chums, they neither play for cheers nor attempt to act 15 years younger than they are.

Buff Bagwell & Scott Steiner are not getting along. Scott’s on-air comments about Buff’s self-obsessed grooming habits are shoot comments. Also, Buff is taking credit behind the scenes for getting Scott over in recent months. He also has supposedly gone to Eric Bischoff & made a case that he deserves a bigger push since he has one of the three best bodies in wrestling.

Scott Steiner pinned Buff Bagwell in 7:10 to retain the U.S. Title. This was what has become a standard Scott Steiner match. His opponent, fearing for his safety, takes one bump after another, cowers & covers his face during routine punching sequences, & does a job in the end. Meanwhile, Scott is fun to watch since you never know when he’s going to lose control. As Scott got in the faces of fans at ringside, the camera shifted to Buff instead (just in case Scott punches someone, we don’t want any footage to make it to the courtroom). Scott yelled at a fan, “You piece of shit, come on,” followed by, “Kiss my ass,” “You ain’t shit, come on,” & “Bitch!” Scott dominated offense & won the match, an unusual combination since usually in pro wrestling, the wrestler doing the job gets to dominate offense during the match to make up for having to lose. Buff was probably just happy to get through the match without getting injured - intentionally or by accident - by Scott. Following their match Buff had a couple of lumps on his face from overly stiff shots by Scott.

Wrestling Observer [17th May 1999]
Scott "The Walking lawsuit Waiting to Happen" Steiner pinned Buff Bagwell to retain the U.S. Title in 7:10. There was legit heat between Bagwell & Steiner & all week long there were rumors, not that this would be a shoot, but that Bagwell would wind up with some lumps. Scott potatoed him several times & Bagwell the next day had some major league lumps. Mostly Scott worked with him, but there was a real stiff kick & a few clubbing forearms that clubbed harder than usual. Mainly a one-sided match with Scott killing him. Scott put Bagwell in the recliner for the win.

PowerSlam Magazine [June 1999]
Buff Bagwell paid a heavy price for daring to call Scott Steiner 'Big Poppa Dump'. Indeed he received a brutal kicking from the raging United States champion - the black & blue evidence of which was visible for days to come. In between pummelling his former sidekick with a barrage of super stiff blows, Steiner took time the time to exchange expletives with any ringsider brave/foolish enough to participate.
