Ritual Crown with the Five Transcendent Buddha,Collection of the Capital Museum #beijing #museum

The Qing dynasty brocade and gold-threaded Five Buddha Crown in the Capital Museum is an exquisitely crafted Buddhist ritual crown from the Qing period.
It is made with brocade as the base, interwoven with gold threads (gold silk brocade), and stitched together, inlaid with a large number of pearls and gemstones (approximately 950 in total).
The Five Buddha Crown (also known as the Five Wisdom Crown) is a ritual headdress worn by masters or senior monks in Tibetan Buddhism (Esoteric Buddhism) during empowerment ceremonies and Dharma practices. It symbolizes the wisdom and blessings of the Five Directional Buddhas.
The White Stupa Temple (Miaoying Temple) has been an important Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Beijing since the Yuan dynasty. This crown was discovered inside the finial of the White Stupa, and it was likely a precious ritual object that had been enshrined or sealed within the stupa at the time.
It represents the pinnacle of Qing dynasty weaving, embroidery, gilding, and gemstone inlay craftsmanship, and serves as a significant artifact for studying Qing court Buddhist art, Sino-Tibetan cultural exchange, and the imperial system of Buddhist offerings. Its luxurious quality, featuring around 950 gemstones and pearls, is extremely rare among similar artifacts and demonstrates the Qing imperial family’s profound reverence for Tibetan Buddhism.
