CSX Main Line Railroad Camp Out, 2 Nights Along Ex Louisville & Nashville Railway Line To Knoxville

2 Night Camping Trip to see CSX freight trains and maintenance of way equipment. Cincinnati to Knoxville, Tennessee ex Louisville & Nashville Railway L&N. This was a major coal route to Corbin, Kentucky until most of the coal trains dried up. Today there are more mixed freight trains on the line than coal. I wanted to find out how many trains go over this line. A fan of my channel, Steve, who has become a good friend of mine owns a 40 acre wooded tract in Central Kentucky between Butler and Falmouth that sits right on the CSX mainline. I went there on September 23, 2020 and spent 12 hours waiting for trains. None came. My next goal was to camp next to the tracks for 48 hours. I started camping on September 26 and spent two nights there until September 29, 2020. I left just a few hours short of 48 hours due to rain. The camp site is a little over .4 of a mile down a grass lane with a very steep hill to the camp site that would be difficult to get over with wet grass, even though I have a 4 wheel drive truck. Trains use 161.370 road and 452.940 for end of train device. The first train didn't come until dark. In all, I saw a high rail truck, 6 trains and 2 pieces of maintenance of way equipment. 4 trains went by in dark and 2 in the light. There was an empty coal train, 4 manifest trains and one short local freight. 2 of the manifest had mid train DPUs. This video shows the trains from 2 cameras and shows a little bit of the area including an old barn that sits in the middle of the woods. It was awesome sleeping next to the tracks way out in the country and getting surprised by passing trains! The first night there was a pack of coyotes that made a racket just across the tracks from the tent. I had to make a little noise to get them to go away so we could sleep. We had to leave before it rained and I left just in time because I drove through the rain on the way home. It was an excellent camping trip! Thanks for watching!
