Ah, Jesus Mine, What Agony - J. S. Bach

This aria, “Ah, Jesus Mine, What Agony” (BWV 487) by J. S. Bach, was recorded during a Good Friday service. Following are the words:

Ah, Jesus mine, what agony befell Thee at Gethsemane
when thither Thou wast going!
What mortal anguish Thou didst bear,
what deadly terror suffer there, in floods of woe, overflowing,
with sigh and cry, dreary moaning, bitter groaning desolation,
hands upheld in supplication.

Thou faithful, true Immanuel,
deliv’rest me from death and hell, and from all sin and error.
Thy great distress and agony when Thou encount’redst death for me
that saved my soul from terror.
Ah how it now henceforth raises hymns and praises to extoll Thee
for Thy passion pure and holy.

The soprano soloist is Carolyn Carmack, and the organist is now a Monk at an Orthodox Monastery.
