Radiation Heart Disease: Considerations in Care

Radiation heart disease is a difficult condition to treat. The most challenging aspect of treatment is the injury that can occur from prior radiation to all the structures of the chest. There are three phases of care. Vice Chairman, Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Douglas Johnston, MD, discusses patient monitoring, imaging studies and considerations for intervention for coronary disease, valve disease, aortic disease and/or pericardial constriction.
