BTECH APRS-K2 Cable - QUICK START USERS GUIDE
Recommended Phone Applications:
• iPhone: Search the AppStore for ‘APRSPro’ -(http://aprspro.com/v1/)
• Android: Search Google Play ‘APRSdroid’ (https://aprsdroid.org)
APRS Frequencies:
North America: 144.39MHz
Europe: 144.80MHz
Australia: 145.175MHz
Audio Recommended Settings:
Radio Speaker Volume (incoming APRS audio on radio to device):
The APRS-K2 Cable has audio protection for your device to prevent strong audio levels or audio distortion on incoming transmissions; even with this in place – we recommended starting with ¼ volume on your radio and slowly increasing until your APRS app starts decoding incoming APRS transmissions which will normally occur between ¼ - ½ volume.
Remember to set the squelch level on your radio to a low setting and remove any CTCSS or DCS RX tones.
Radio VOX Level (outgoing APRS audio on device to radio):
FIRST: Mute notification sounds on your device (You do not want to transmit your personal notifications on air.)
In your Application for your device locate the transmit settings; and allow a 3-4 second preamble/delay on AFSK (so VOX has a chance to initiate on the radio)
Set the VOX LEVEL on the radio starting at a low setting and transmit a ‘single shot’ location from your APRS app; if the radio transmits the APRS packet; you have confirmed that the VOX level is appropriate. If the radio does not transmit an APRS packet – increase the VOX level sensitivity on the radio and try again.
INCLUDED REVERSE ADAPTER INFORMATION:
The BTECH APRS-K2 includes a Reverse Cable adapter to insure compatibility with all devices. This is to adapt to the earlier 3.5MM TRRS Standard (Nokia Standard)
The majority of devices will work without this adapter. Some brands (or older devices) are wired in a reverse fashion and the adapter will be needed on those devices. It is recommended to store this adapter a safe place - so you will always be able to adapt your radio to your favorite 3.5MM device or line-in options.
