OpenClaw install: execution approval setup

OpenClaw is an autonomous agent setup that has already attracted more than 500,000 installs, but the real issue is not installation volume. The important difference is whether users configured the agent safely, especially around model selection, messaging integration, and permission controls.

The script argues that most user risk does not come from the technical install process itself, but from two overlooked settings. The first is the agent’s “brain” and communication layer, with Telegram presented as the most practical interface through a BotFather-created bot token. The second, and most important, is execution approval: enabling this setting forces the agent to request confirmation before taking actions, turning a risky automation tool into something far more controlled.

The broader takeaway is that autonomous agents become dangerous or useful based on operational setup, not hype or ease of onboarding. Small configuration choices such as approval gating and using a burner email instead of a real inbox can be the difference between convenience and costly mistakes.
