The DOORS - Soft ASYLUM (Alternate Reality Album)

Full Album from an Alternative reality...

This album was put together, and mastered, by the Bizarre Bazaar, just for the sake of art, and for the love of quality. Some songs are from the original record, others live versions or outtakes. I compiled and treated them, having no right over the songs, and, obviously, no intention to sell them... But (to the ones who tend to forget that rules are supposed to go both ways), I must say that this is, still, - and for all matters - an Original Concept, and a new album that came into this reality in this very specific way...

Generally regarded as the poorest effort by the Doors, and even a "sell-out" to some, the Soft Parade it's often a dismissed album in their "otherwise wonderful" discography...

Well, I don't concur...

While it's certainly not their best work as seen from all perspectives, it still loads a lot of value. In fact, it's probably their most daring work ever. It's a cool and experimental album, that features some of their best songs, and even the so-called "sell-out" songs are bold, being a departure from the formula they had by then... But, of course, I can agree that the album could be more in the vein of the other entries in their discography...

Some "blame" the orchestration, some "blame" the production, the weak songwriting, etc... And, while I do have some quibbles with a few of that aspects, overall, I can't fully concur about none of them... I have a lot of opinions on the matter, but I'll resume them in one single thing that I think we all could agree:

It doesn't sound like the Doors!

The way I see it, a sum of small (to big) choices lead to that... So, I tried to rethink them and pieced together this alternative album, as a way to show the value within the original album (or period in the bands career)... For that I tried to come up with a "classic" Doors album, while preserving the original concept and feel, but in a way that sounds "right" for them.

(The alternative name for the album - Soft Asylum - came to my mind after a conversation with Illumi Notme Reloaded, who referred to the beauty of this "word"... In truth, I started with other "targets" in mind (like the ones who destroyed the first episode of this series), but I prefer dedicating this episode to him, for his positive effect on it. Cheers!)
