What are Vital Signs?
Vital signs are the basic body measurements that indicate a person's health status. They include:
Temperature 🌡️
Pulse ❤️
Respiration 🌬️
Blood Pressure 🩸
Oxygen Saturation (SpO₂) 🫁
🔹 Instruments Used:
Thermometer (Digital/Mercury) – for body temperature
Stethoscope – for heart and lung sounds
Sphygmomanometer – for blood pressure
Pulse Oximeter – for oxygen saturation
Watch/Clock – for counting pulse and respiration
🔹 Measurement Techniques (Short Overview):
Temperature: Oral, Axillary, Rectal methods
Pulse: Radial artery (wrist) commonly used
Respiration: Count chest movements quietly
Blood Pressure: Use cuff and stethoscope (manual) or digital BP machine
SpO₂: Clip pulse oximeter on finger
🔹 Normal Values (Adults):
Temperature: 36.5°C – 37.5°C
Pulse: 60 – 100 beats/min
Respiration: 12 – 20 breaths/min
Blood Pressure: 120/80 mmHg
SpO₂: 95% – 100%
