How to Repair a Hole in the Wall From a Door Knob | Zillow

Leah from See Jane Drill shows you how to repair a hole in the wall from a door knob, and prevent any future holes. All you need to do is strengthen the wall at the contact point, and install a door stop. To install the door stop:

1) Drill a pilot hole into the bottom of the door. Make sure you are not drilling into the hollow part of the door.
2) Attach the door stop to the plate

For a quick fix of the hole, you'll need a circular piece of plastic called a “doorknob wall shield. Remove the adhesive from the doorknob wall shield, and place over the hole.

To make the permanent repair, you'll need scrap wood, drywall screws, keyhole saw, scrap drywall, pencil, and drill with phillips bit. Follow these steps to do it yourself:

1) Put your piece of scrap drywall against the hole, and use a pencil to draw an outline around the scrap drywall
2) Use the keyhole saw to cut the section you just marked off.
3) Insert the scrap wood into the hole, securing firmly in place screws
4) Attach the drywall by drilling it into the scrap wood.
5) Add the joint compound to fill in any gaps
6) Finish by sanding, and painting
