The statement comes five months after U.S. troops stormed Caracas and captured President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores on January 3. The Trump administration has since backed former Vice President Delcy Rodriguez's government, which has moved swiftly to open Venezuela's vast oil reserves and mining resources to American interests. Critics say Washington has effectively installed a compliant government in Caracas to secure energy access.
