Aurora Borealis 5/10/24, Lyons, Colorado. 4 Minutes Into Time Lapse the Aurora Becomes Very Active.

I setup my GoPro Hero 5 facing North on the 10th of May at around 11:30PM stopping it at around 4:45AM . The GoPro was setup in night time lapse taking an image every 4 seconds. In night lapse mode the GoPro keeps the shutter open longer, as you can see when planes fly by they streak on the screen. The Aurora is not very active until about 3 mins 53 seconds into the video at roughly 12:35AM, then it really starts to do some really beautiful displays changing from greens , blues, reds and purple colors well into the early morning hours. The video covers a little over 5 hours of time, so every 4 minutes of video covers a bit over 1 hour of lapsed time. The Camera is located near Lyons, Colorado a small town located between Boulder and Estes Park on Hwy 36, also several miles West of Longmont.

More Info: With the Night Time Lapse mode set for every 4 seconds the playback video is set to replay each frame for 200mS. Post processing the images applies a contrast of 16 and a brightness of 71 on each frame, no other filters were applied. The video frame rate is set for 30 FPS . Video Format MP4 encoded H.264 at 1920x1080 resolution.
