In 1971 a paleontologist in Antelope County, Nebraska found the skull of an animal sticking out of some badlands. Little did Dr. Michael Voorhies know that this find would not only define his career, but would be one of the greatest Miocene fossil sites in the world.

Over the past five decades, paleontologists from Nebraska have been going back every summer to find more of the amazing fossils at the Ashfall Fossil Beds. And since the 90s there has been an increase in public awareness do to the construction of the rhino barn. A building set up around the bulk of the fossils found at the site where the fossil can remain in the ground and remain protected, Researchers can continue work away from the elements, and visitors can come in to view these 12 million year old animal bones exactly where they died all thos eons ago.

I've always wanted to see this site, and I am thrilled to take you on this adventure. However, I want to encurage anyone who has the oppertunity to make a trip out to the Ashfall Fossil Beds for yourself. I know it seems a little out of the way but it's absolutly worth it!
