Damaged P42 on Amtrak Train #50 in Dyer, IN 3/30/24

After getting the crossing madness in Porter, I raced back over to Dyer to catch Amtrak 50. I first got it in Munster where you can see a new overpass being built for the future South Shore expansion to Dyer, then I caught it in Dyer after making its station stop.

Since it was a Saturday, it would be ferrying equipment from Chicago down to Beech Grove that are due for overhauls, repaints, or just overall heavy repairs. On this Saturday, It had 2 Superliners and 1 P42 bound for the Grove.

The P42 that was being transported had its nose removed and was also damaged towards the back. This was involved in a collision with I believe a dump truck on March 25th when it was leading Capitol Limited to Chicago. I don't know if it'll be repaired and/or repainted or if Amtrak will just retire it. I guess we'll wait and see.

Also, the normal Cardinal section had Amtrak 320 for power which has a very nice hybrid K5LA so I was a tad disappointed that I didn't get to hear it, but I'm sure I'll get it someday.
