The Bodhisattva's Garland of Jewels by Atisha [3]
Practicing like this, you will complete
Accumulations of both merit and wisdom,
And eliminate the two defilements.
You will make this human life meaningful
And attain unsurpassable enlightenment.
Khenpo Sherab Sangpo, a professor of Tibetan Buddhism in the Nyingma Lineage (bodhicittasangha.org), offers a series of teachings on “The Bodhisattva’s Garland of Jewels" by Atisha (Atiśa Dīpaṃkara), a text that offers Atisha’s heart advice to his students on how to practice the Dharma until enlightenment.
Atisha, who is also known as Jowo Jé Palden Atisha (982-1054), was a great Indian master, scholar, author, and monk. As one of the main teachers at Vikramashila, a famous monastic university in India, he was widely acclaimed for the purity of his teaching. He spent the last ten years of his life in Tibet, teaching and translating texts, and played a key role in reinvigorating the Dharma in Tibet after a period of persecution of followers of the Buddhist path. His disciples founded the Kadampa school.
