This is a common angle used for almost any turning maneuver. At this angle you can push straight down on the kick tail ramp with as much force as you want with no shear force against your ankle. THE MATERIAL: Foam acts like a shock absorber. When you push against a foam pad it compresses resulting in a significant amount of the power in your push never making it to your surfboard. RIKT kick tails have a rigid core, and act like an extension of your surfboard transferring 100% of the power in your back foot directly to your tail. This is something you can easily feel, and for many surfers, on their first wave.
