Why was Tony so extremely hungry?

I came down to take care of the chickens and found Tony meowing like crazy at my feet. I found out that all of the food out of his bowl was gone even though I had fed him that morning, his bowl was also completely polished off, so I suspect a different animal came in and ate the rest of his food.
