Here is a sample with what you can do with a Kenwood D-72 Portable in DUPLEX mode. Uplink Freq is 145.99 with a 67Hz PL. Downlink receive starts at 437.810 on approach then 5 Khz shifting down as it approaches. When it is at the highest I shifted to 437.80. You can do this on a portable and good antenna.
