Hey everyone Adam Simmons here from Dgtl Infra, short for Digital Infrastructure. As part of the continuing roll-out of 5G networks, in 2021, in the United States, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is freeing up C-band spectrum, for 5G use.

C-band is mid-band spectrum, which is known as “backbone spectrum” and is in the “sweet spot” for providing both good coverage and capacity for 5G services. Specifically, this means that mid-band spectrum has good transmission distance and fast speeds of 300 to 400 megabits per second.

Indeed, all of the major wireless carriers including Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile bid in this auction. Elevated bidding activity clearly illustrates how important the wireless carriers view mid-band spectrum in the context of their 5G roll-outs.
