The reason for reloading the save file after fights 1, 2, and 3 is that it manipulates the timer that it takes Bowser to spawn to be much shorter (multiple minutes each time).
I have my controls remapped to swap X and ZR and to swap L and R, so I'm actually holding ZR for most of the run, not X.
