Biden claims Trump is 'xenophobic', but not because of China

Democratic nominee Joe Biden has labelled President Trump as “xenophobic”, however, denied it was on the grounds of closing the United States borders to China.

The presidential candidates were probed on their coronavirus response plans by moderator NCB journalist Kristen Welker during the final presidential debate.

“He is xenophobic, but not because he shut down access from China,” Mr Biden said.

He also criticised Mr Trump for closing the border too slowly, saying 40 countries had already done it before Chinese travel was banned in the US.

In response to Mr Biden’s comment, the president said he recalled the former vice president calling him a “xenophobe”.

“I think he called me racist even, and because I was closing it to China” Mr Trump said.

“Now he says I should have closed it earlier, Joe it doesn’t work.”

Mr Biden denied making those comments, saying he “talked about xenophobia in a different context, it wasn’t about closing the border to Chinese coming to the United States.”
