WATCH: 2 economists on where the U.S. economy is headed now

Whether the United States economy is in a recession or not has been up for debate recently amid sky-high inflation, Federal Reserve rate increases and fluctuating employment numbers.

In an effort to understand the state of the economy now, the PBS NewsHour's Nicole Ellis spoke with Elise Gould, a senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute and Diana Furchtgott-Roth, who is an adjunct economics professor at George Washington University and former chief economist at the Department of Labor, about their perspectives and to find out if America is in a recession, what is going on with inflation and what to expect in the future.

This video was produced by Casey Kuhn, Nicole Ellis, Julia Griffin, Yasmeen Alamiri and Jenna Cohen. Video and photos courtesy Reuters.
