FLASH: Satwik-Chirag enter final of Thailand Masters Badminton 2026 tournament
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made it to their first final this year at the Thailand Open, a BWF World Tour Super 500 event, in Bangkok. Satwik-Chirag, the top-seeded Indian duo, beat the third-seeded Malaysian pair of Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin 19-21, 22-20, 21-16, extending their head-to-head advantage to 8-2. World No. 4 Satwik-Chirag last played a final at the China Masters Super 750 tournament in 2025. Chasing their first title since lifting the trophy at the Thailand Open two years ago, the Indians, two-time world championships bronze medallists, will be up against either the Indonesian pair of Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin or the Chinese duo of He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu. World No. 9 Goh and Izzuddin made the first move in the semifinal which lasted an hour and 22 minutes. After the two pairs rapidly exchanged leads in the initial stages of the opener, the Malaysians surged ahead for good from 7-7. The gap between the two pairs stretched to six points at 15-9. The Indians did well to close the gap and even saved two game points before Satwik netted a drive.
