Cape Town Slalom Sessions 2021 | Andy Laufer

Once again i was able to spend a few weeks with my family in Cape Town. By closing down the famous beaches due to Covid-19, I was able to discover new spots that I would probably never have surfed otherwise . The following is a description of the spots I could capture with my GoPro Hero9 Black:

Paarden Eiland - Cape Town Harbour:

Parking at the end of Lagoon Beach Drive there is a perfect spot to go slalom sailing. I used a 6.6 Neil Pryde EVOXII with a JP Australia 72 Proto 2022 and a NoLo 37 Model 5 fin that day. The higher you go upwind, the gustier the wind becomes. Right next to Cape Town Harbour you can do some proper speed runs, chasing those South-Easter gusts from behind. Sooo much fun! That light at sunset is just insane. I loove this view! Especially when you suddently find yourself in the middle of a dolphin school! They hang out there most of the time, playing, watching and showing off jumping.

Nordhoek Beach - Kommetje:
Had to go out in Kommetje as the Nordhoek Beach was closed. Straight offshore winds here with some rocks, funny shades and kelp in the water. If you sail around Kommetje point, you come straight to my favorite beach - Nordhoek Beach! That water colour and that Chapman's Peak view is just insane! The South-Easter at Kommetje point was gusting up to gnarly 40kn that day. The other side near Nordhoek was much lighter, maybe around 20kn. For speedsailing the best spot is near Kommetje. Super flat water, less waves and super strong winds. Had to be careful as i was alone. You don't wanna crash out there in the middle of nowhere.

Kraalbaii - Langebaan:
Beautiful spot for the whole family. Super warm and flat water where you might see and "feel" some sand rays and sand sharks on your feet :)

Trekoskraal - Paternoster:
What an unspoiled beauty. Super nice spot for slalom, freestyle and some small waves.
