Why a Faster Backswing Can Actually Slow Your Transition

One of the biggest mistakes golfers make is trying to slow everything down in the backswing.

But here’s the interesting part…

A faster backswing can actually help create a smoother, more controlled transition.

Why? Impulse.

In simple terms, impulse is the force applied over time. When you move the club back with more speed, the body naturally needs a brief moment to reorganise before changing direction. That small pause helps sequence the downswing correctly.

Instead of forcing a rushed transition, the body loads, stabilises, then unwinds.

This is why many elite players have a quicker backswing but a beautifully patient transition.

The speed going back actually helps create rhythm, timing and proper sequencing.

Trying to artificially slow the backswing often leads to:
• Tension
• Poor sequencing
• Rushed transitions

Sometimes the best way to slow down the transition…
is to speed up the backswing.

Structured training matters.
