Google SEO 2021: Traditional SEO is DEAD - Sack your SEO agency

The SEO industry is changing - How is the SEO industry going to change in 2021? Sack your SEO agency if they are not recommending video.

If your SEO agency or company is not recommending VIDEO as the No.1 strategy for SEO right now (and the chances are they are not even talking to you about video content), then get them SACKED. If your SEO company is not recommending video or dismissing it then they frankly know nothing worth knowing about SEO and how it works now. They are outdated and using techniques that will not deliver long-term and will cost your business its ranking positions in the next few months (if not sooner).

There is an enormous shift coming this year in the SEO industry and it's all to do with video and social. We have sat with many businesses from an agency perspective and discussed the merits of SEO campaigns (with our main issue being that 99% of SEO agency contracts don't get paid on results and those that claim to work based on their results often use shady tactics to rank sites quickly, get paid, then actually cause more issues for a client long term).

Google's absolute aim is to drive voice search (AEO) or 'Answer engine optimization' - this is where it is all leading and will mean enormous change within the SEO industry and will put many in the SEO agency landscape out of business.

Google has openly stated that it believes the future of search to be video-based, we are seeing more and more video being pulled into Google's main listings and YouTube is of course the second largest search engine in the world already, and set to be No.1 at some point. We can see videos that rank on YouTube that gain good engagement being pulled straight into Google main search listings at the top, this is something that is happening more and more. Look at it this way, it's relatively easy to rank a video at the top of YouTube within 24 hours of publishing it, but can you get it to stick?

That's the hard part, you see YouTube is the testing ground for content to be served into the main search. Using video Google can test the quality of your content before promoting it to the main Google SERP, people will start seeing the video and engaging with it. Google can then see and measure how well made the content is, how far people watch through and if they like/share/comment etc. Google would never rank my video No.1 in normal search straight out of the gate as it could compromise the integrity of the platform search results (remembering that Google doesn't want people finding off-topic or poor quality content when they search), but it will give my video a 'shot at the top spot' on YouTube as it's the place where Google is actively testing this type of content (and if someone searches on YouTube and gets my video, if they then don't watch or find the content boring then I'm quickly demoted and assigned to a small backwater on one of the tributaries the ocean that is YouTube never to be found ever again. So we should look at YouTube as the gateway to Google's main listings and frankly the single most valuable SEO tool any business can deploy right now.

This is what your SEO agency should be talking to you about, not backlinks or blogging.

So, is the SEO industry dead? No, but it is going to make a massive shift to video. The issue is that actually requires WORK on behalf of the SEO agencies, they aren't video production companies, they certainly don't want to see SEO budgets shifted from the little work they actually now do to having to spend on video marketing, they will fight tooth and nail to convince their customers that they don't need videos or a YouTube SEO strategy to rank.
