Matti Borg is a Danish composer, opera singer and music-teacher.

The poem is written by J. P. Jacobsen (1847 - 1885), who was a Danish novelist, poet and scientist. He began the naturalist movement in Danish literature and was a part of the Modern Breakthrough in Scandinavia. Jacobsen's canon consists of two novels, seven short stories, and one posthumous volume of poetry – small, but enough to place him as one of the most influential Danish writers. Realizing that the work of Charles Darwin was not well known in Denmark, he translated "The Origin of Species" and "The Descent of Man" into Danish.

Alle de voksende Skygger
har vævet sig sammen til en,
ensom paa Himmelen lyser
en Stjærne saa straalende ren,
Skyerne have saa tunge Drømme,
blomsternes øjne i Duggraad svømme,
underligt Aftenvinden suser i Linden.

All the growing shadows have
Woven themselves into one,
Alone in the sky shines
A star so bright and pure,
The clouds have so heavy dreams,
Dew flows from flowers' eyes,
And strangely sings the evening breeze,
Sings in the linden tree.

Die wachsenden Schatten haben
Sich zu einem verwoben,
Einsam am Himmel funkelt
Ein Stern so hell und rein,
Die Wolken haben so schwere Träume,
Die Augen der Blumen vom Tau verhärmt,
Und seltsam der Abendwind
Seufzet im Lindenbaum.

Toutes les ombres grandissantes
Se sont melées pour ne plus en faire qu'une,
Seule dans le ciel scintille
Une étoile si brillante et si pure,
Le ciel est si plein de rêves chargés,
La rosée ruisselle de yeux des fleurs,
Et tristement la brise du soir soupire,
Soupire dans le tilleui.

Are wowen together as one,
Lonely and bright in the heavens
A star that shines second to none,
Clouds have their gloom-laden dreams while sleeping,
