Over the past couple of days, a video’s been going viral showing a Mahindra BE6 electric SUV burning.

So what really happened?

We now know more, with Mahindra releasing a statement on their findings about the BE6 fire.

The owner of the BE6 is said to have driven the electric SUV for over 10 Kms with the right rear tyre totally deflated.

Mahindra claims that the owner continued driving despite getting warnings about the deflated tyre on the car’s tyre pressure monitoring system or TPMS.

As the owner continued driving, the high friction produced by the deflated tyre resulted in the tyre catching fire.

This in turn led to other plastic bits around the tyre catching fire. However, Mahindra says that both the battery pack and motor of the BE6 remained unaffected by the fire.

So, this is pretty much what Mahindra says happened to the BE6 that caught fire. If you’re watching this, make sure that you don’t drive a car with an underinflated or deflated tyres. In emergencies, drive very slowly.
